Using the RefWorks reference management tool at Aalto University Töölö campus

Move your references to the new Aalto University RefWorks account starting June 21st 2010 More information

Here you will find the step by step instructions on how to do this.

The library has acquired the RefWorks reference management tool for the use of Aalto University School of Economics students, teachers, researchers and other staff. You can use RefWorks both within the Aalto University domain (on the campus computers and by remote access) and, after you have registered to the service, outside the Aalto University network.

RefWorks is a very popular and useful tool for managing the references that are necessary for research. Collecting references, organizing them and creating a bibliography are all easy to do with RefWorks. You can insert citations in your text using the Write-N-Cite tool that comes with RefWorks.

RefWorks runs in your web browser and the references are saved on the service provider’s server in the USA. That means that you do not have to install any programs on your own computer and that RefWorks is available on any computer with Internet access.

Registering and logging in to RefWorks

Please note that you must register on a computer within the HSE domain (campus computers or remote access). After registering, you can use RefWorks anywhere by using the Group Code. Group Code is a common login for all HSE users that allows users to access RefWorks remotely. You will receive the HSE Group Code by email after you have registered.

  1. Go to http://www.refworks.com/refworks.
  2. Click on Sign Up for an Individual Account.
  3. Enter the required information (including name, email address, and the preferred username and password). Use your HSE email address for registering, i.e. @hse.fi, @student.hse.fi, @mli.hse.fi or @mli.hkkk.fi.
  4. After registering you can start using RefWorks. The user guides listed below may help you.
  5. Log out by clicking the link in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  6. Next time, log in with the username and password you have created. If you use RefWorks outside the HSE domain, enter also the Group Code that you have received by email when you registered.

RefWorks support in Helecon databases

You can export references directly to RefWorks from the Helecon Online databases (MIX, SCIMA, THES, ...) via the selection basket (click "export references to RefWorks" -link in upper right corner of selection basket).

User guides for RefWorks

There are many RefWorks user guides available, e.g.
